Football is the most famous game in the world. You may not have a complete scenario of all competitions around the world. La Liga, Premier League, Serie A - these words become very confusing to you.

I will try to give you a complete view of world football here. So, stay in tune.



At the top of the tree, there is an association called FIFA, the world's largest organization with 211 countries. Under the supervision of FIFA, there are six Confederations across the globe. 

You can locate them in the following picture :





FIFA and its six confederations organize two types of tournaments: national team-based and club-based. 

Top National Team-based Tournaments


1. FIFA World Cup: This the biggest show of world football. It happens after every four years. Every member of FIFA gets an equal chance to participate in this tournament. But only 32 nations have an opportunity to play in the FIFA world cup's main event. The other teams get eliminated in the selection process. The defending Champion of this tournament is France. The Next Edition of this tournament will be held in Qatar next year.

2. UEFA EURO: This a regional tournament organized by UEFA. The top 24 European countries participate in this tournament. It also happens after every four years like FIFA. It was scheduled to happen last year, but "Covid-19" messed it up. It will start this year on June 12. The current Champion of this tournament is Portugal.

3. CONMEBOL Copa America: It is the oldest football tournament in the world. In the recent past, 12 nations participate in his contest. But these all 12 teams don't come from South America Confederation because CONMEBOL doesn't have 12 countries in their organization. So 2 more teams from other continents are invited. The current Champion of this tournament is Brazil. 

4. AFC Asian Cup, Africa Cup of Nations, CONCACAF Gold Cup: You may have figured out that every confederation organizes a National Team tournament. These three tournaments are organized by respective Confederations. The idea of these competitions is the same as the UEFA or CONMEBOL.


UEFA Club Competitions 


In this section, I will mainly concentrate on the club tournaments organized by UEFA. Other confederations also organize tournaments but not as popular as UEFA does. I think you know why. Money is the main attribute here.

There are 55 nations under the supervision of UEFA. Every country has its own domestic league. Of them, the leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France are the most attractive ones. Each of their leagues consists of 20 clubs. These 20 teams play each other twice in a single season. Each team plays a total of 38 league matches in a season. Top of the point table after all games are finished is declared Champion.

UCL, UEFA Champions League, is an annual club football competition organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and contested by top-tier European clubs. It is decided by a round-robin group stage to qualify for a double-leg knockout format and a single-leg final. It is one of the most prestigious football competitions globally and the most prestigious club competition in European football. It is competed by the national league winners (and, in some instances, one or more runners-up) of their respective national leagues.
